I bet you’ll like these videos of dancing inmates in Cebu…
Our weekend started with the 1st birthday party of my inaanak Angela in their house then followed by a late night booze with the QAFAC family group in Ninong Yam’s house. All the dads were in a mood for a drink and singing galore. This time nobody got tipsy and the party ended at 2 in the morning but the problem was we can’t go home, our car was sandwiched with two other cars. Thanks to the rude owners of the other cars who purposedly parked close to the rear and nose of our car. It’s wee hours so we had no choice but to leave our car there and let Dad Yam drive us to our house.
We woke up very late the following day and went only to Lander’s place with Ninay Jinky for ate Andre’s Cinderella gown. I did not buy the C gown in Marks and Spencer. I was not satisfied it seems that there’s something lacking with it so I decided to just find somebody to make it. And the timing is perfect Ate Shey will be having her 7th birthday and they know the perfect guy who makes best gowns in weddings and other celebrations.
Ate Andrea and Ate Shey insisted of going to KFC and we ended up there. They played for awhile including Sean.
And our Saturday was very exciting yet tiring. We started our day at 5:30 am we woke up very early because we had a schedule, it was a swimming day in Intercon Hotel. Ate Princess was very happy as well as Sean. They met a 19 months old Aussy boy in the kiddie pool. They played a lot. The smile in Sean’s face, the happiness of Ate Andrea are so overwhelming. They kept on thanking Mom May for inviting us there. And thanks to Bima too. Our names are still in the system and we still have 35% discount on membership fee, so we’ll think about joining the health club there again.
Lunchtime was spent in another friend’s house. Kuya Edgar asked STR to fix two old computers so there. Together with Mom May and Dad Yam we went to Kuya Edgar’s house. Kuya Edgar cooked sinigang na hipon, it’s so yummy with some kangkong vegies and the fried hammour (lapu-lapu), the sweet watermelon and they have cake. STR finished fixing the computers nearly 5 pm so three families proceeded to Villagio Mall for our groceries and some window shopping. And we were home at 8 in the evening. Everybody went straight to bed after changing clothes and I woke up and remembered that I still have to call my bosom friend who happens to be back here in Doha from a long vacation.
|“You look at that river gently flowing by. You notice the leaves rustling with the wind. You hear the birds; you hear the tree frogs. In the distance you hear a cow. You feel the grass. The mud gives a little bit on the river bank. It’s quiet; it’s peaceful. And all of a sudden, it’s a gear shift inside you. And it’s like taking a deep breath and going, “Oh yeah, I forgot about this.”|
— Al Gore in the opening monologue of An Inconvenient Truth
Have you seen the movie An Inconvenient Truth? If not then it’s about time to consider this as a must-see for you to have an awareness on how to help control global warming. This movie was shown in theaters last June 2006. This is a movie that will move you and shake you up (and that’s if you care for Mother Earth) that indeed your action, your every day life can make a difference in helping to reduce the carbon dioxide emission in the air. In this movie, Al Gore (the former Vice President of USA) has been campaigning on global warming. He presents the problem of global warming alongside with the factual data and some pictures and the reality is so scary.
With the continuous melting of the massive glaciers in Greenland and West Antartica then time will come that some parts of the world will be under water like Florida, New York, some parts in India, China Mexico and other countries. And that would mean millions of people are going to be catastrophic refugees and all of them affected by global warming will be redirected to other areas on earth. With these problems for sure chaos would arise and more and more problems human beings would face to. We are the villains and as well as the victims of this climate crisis. Global warming is real and we should take action before its too late.
So the question now is how to be of help to slow down this global warming. You can help by planting trees. By using solar energy and by using products that can be recycled you are helping Mother Earth.

I guess some of you who happens to work in QChem knows this story already. Our friends M and M are in Philippines together with their kids for a very tragic incident that happened in their family.
Last Saturday, M’s brother (J) who came also here in Qatar to find work but unfortunately he had some problems with his visa so he had to go home to Pinas before his visa would expire. J is a chemical engineer. He is a good natured guy and from his face emanates his personality of being a good person and even from talking to him in the phone you could have this impression of him as a nice man.
But a day after his arrival in Pinas he met his death, together with his mother. Some friends told us that maybe the suspect who killed them wanted something from them, maybe money or we don’t know. The crime scene was like a visitor came since there was a water in the table and the electric fan was brought down to the receiving room from upstairs. So what’s the motive behind the death of J and his mother? Or maybe the killer wanted something and they cannot give what he wants or maybe J resisted. When the father arrived at 8 am J and his mother were already dead.
When my hubby told me this story when he arrived from work I was really stunned. I felt the loss of a life of a nice man whom I just talked to on the phone upon arrival here in Qatar from our long vacation in Pinas about his visa and some other options that could be made just to let him prolong his stay here and gradually fix his visa. I told him not to go home.
This tragic incident makes me live in fear and paranoia of what’s happening in our country. Is it the result of too much poverty or just the bad nature of human being that costs human lives?
Even my friend who lives near that town in Balanga Bataan, also feels the same way, she told me that the thought of going home for Christmas makes her fear for their lives.
It’s of high importance to be cautious in dealing with others. Being an OFW can be a target for those killers and robbers. This is an awful reality of what’s happening in our country. Even from watching the news there are lots of crimes. God Keep us always safe!
Last Sunday night we went to Rachell and Clint’s wedding dinner party in Great Wall of China Restaurant. Ninay Rachell is the godmother of Sean Linus and a sweet and thoughtful friend. We met Rachell when I was pregnant with Sean and she’s the ultrasound technologist in QP Clinic.
She was so accommodating that I opted to make an appointment for the ultrasound parallel to her schedule so that she’s the one who’ll do it and not the other guy who happens to be of another nationality. Its not that I don’t want other nationalities (I have nothing against them) but I have this feeling of being taken cared of, the TLC of a kabayan rather than other nationalities in QP Clinic who doesn’t care if they are hurting you already or just that they are like that, callous and unmindful of other’s emotions. And it goes the same way regarding the health of my kids if they get sick we prefer a kabayan doctor and have a second opinion from my hubby’s brother and sis in law.
So that’s how our friendship started and I can still hear Rachell’s words…”Ay! Lalaki ang baby nyo! Ang haba ng legs nya at my lawit!” And from there on we definitely knew that our second baby is a boy. Our friendship flourished and we asked her together with my hubby who happen to be there with me during my 2nd ultrasound to be a godmother of our baby boy. She’s so sweet as a ninang that she always asks how her inaanak is doing.
Best wishes to you Ninay Rachell and Ninong Clint!!!
The best part of having a dinner in Great Wall of China Restaurant is the yummy buchi. That’s what I always look forward to in dining in this resto.
The Story of how we ended up buying Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)…
As Saturdays’ of the Rafael’s starts with the church Sat. mass, we planned last night to go to Jungle Zone in Hyatt Plaza to treat Ate Andrea and Sean with some rides and to watch some stage plays performed by international artists as I read from the newspaper for the Color Ur Summer Event from 4:30 in the afternoon until 9:30 in the evening.
But there were some changes in our plan after the mass instead of going there at 4 pm we went straight to some of our friends to give them Sean’s birthday invitation so as to lessen the load of distributing them. Then after we headed to Hyatt Plaza, discarding the idea of watching some stage plays since it would be late by then if we would pursue and Dad N has work tomorrow.
Upon entering the mall we were surprised that there was a show and indeed it was the launching of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This is the last tale of the boy’s wizard adventure so just imagine the excitement of people all around the world-waiting to have the first grab of the most awaited book for the Harry Potter-mania by JK Rowling.
People are gladly watching the performers from Jungle Zone Plaza, the same performers during Ate Andrea and Sean’s 1st birthdays, there was the juggler who can juggle almost everything from balls to hats to batons and there’s an additional in the team a “unano” a small man, below the average size and height who acts as the laughing stock and minus, Aldrin the magician.
They asked some questions regarding some characters in the book and in between those questions there were some games. And they were giving some DVDs’ of the Harry Potter if you’ll win. There was this one game wherein they asked for 3 girls and I was asking Ate Andrea to go there on the stage and join the game, maybe, she’ll win and we’ll have a DVD but she was not in the mood. And the game was very easy; the three girls should put the pen with a string hooked on one ear and then the first one who’ll put the pen inside the bottle will win. And three of them got a DVD.
Another game was played by 5 moms and 5 dads, the Japanese walk, wherein 5 paper plates were inserted in the armpits, in between the legs, in the neck and one is used as a fan and the contestant will walk around the chair and then back to her/his teammates and then pass on the plates and the first team to finish wins the game. I wanted to stand up and go to the stage but I hesitated for sure Sean would go with me and there surely we’ll spoil the chance of winning so I told my hubby to join them. But the mom team won so that DVD was not really meant for us.
The last part was the purchasing of the book. It was like every people sitting there jumped off their sits and the long qeue started. Perplexed of what we should do, we were caught in confusion since we did not intend to buy the book and i just wanted to borrow from a friend but they announced that if you’ll purchase a book there’ll be a free ticket for the Jungle Zone rides so there to late we didn’t know that the first one to purchase the book will receive 4 DVDs of Harry Potter. The book costs Qr. 99.00 and the ticket in Jungle Zone is Qr. 45 so we decided to just buy the book and have a free ticket so there that’s how we were able to buy and be in the Harry Potter fever.
It was then followed by pictorials. Everyone who purchased the book was on the stage. Unluckily, my camera’s battery was nearly dead so I was able to take small shots.
Now, I’ve got another book to read and an additional backlog. The Zahir, I’m not yet finished and my sweet hubby just bought another interesting book, The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman and the question now is on how I could be able to read those books without eye bags. See, I’ve got only free time when the kids are in deep slumber or they have their afternoon naps.
Here are the pictures taken during the HP launching:
It was the 8th birthday of Ate Anjela last Thursday since her mom was not here, she’s in Pinas to attend to the wake and funeral of her mother so it’s me and Ninang May who helped in Jelay’s bday party.
They came to our house past 4 in the afternoon and we chose which outfit she would wear, she had two outfits, one white halter top with pink skirt and the other one is a red dress but she brought only one pair of pink shoes so there’s no really decision to make so she had to wear the first outfit. After putting a light make up we waited for awhile for STR and then we headed to Burger King in Al Sadd. I was the photographer and my kids enjoyed the games. Sean won in bringing in his dad’s shoe. And Ate Princess was second in saying the longest happy birthday Anjela.
Andrea and Sean participated in almost all of the games.
The mascot scared Andrea. She ran to her dad and did not want to get near the mascot. And this means no mascot again for their birthday parties.
The party did not ended up there, the oldies went straight to our house. Children stayed up late and the teens played table tennis downstairs while the clicking of glasses continued in the dining table hehehe.
Before when they are still small it’s me who has to decide in everything but now my daughter has a say on almost everything. She has her own choices on clothes, toys, food and anything. I always ask her what she wants but major decisions are still for us to make. And now she’s torn on who she’ll be in her 4th birthday party. She wants to be Elina and at the same time she wants also to be Cinderella.

As a mom, I can’t help not to wonder how time flies so swiftly,
how my son grows so quickly and I just can’t help not to share how I feel
(beaming with happiness and pride) being the mom of Linus.
