Summer in Qatar

So how it would be like there in Qatar during summer? This is a common question by my friends who wants to know about Qatar living.  During summer, temperature sometimes reaches 50 degrees Celcius. The humidity reaches over 80%. The months of July and August are the hottest and the most humid too.

One thing to look forward to during summer here in qatar is the Qatar Summer Wonders Festival. It’s like Dubai Festival in which almost all of the malls and shops are on sale and there are family-friendly events and activities. The purpose of this festival is to encourage the people in Qatar to stay during this hottest season rather than to travel abroad for mostly of the residents fly abroad just to escape the boiling hot summer.

It is advisable to bring always a bottle of water and not to stay outside for longer period of time. There are lots of cases of heat stroke during the peak of summer in Hamad Hospital as reported to the daily newspaper– The Gulftimes. And most of the victims of this heat stroke are those working in construction sites but now there’s a ministerial decision, a mandate of restricting the construction companies not to deploy the construction workers from 11:30 am until 3 pm in the sites. This directive is valid until August 31, 2007.

You can also beat the heat by going to beaches, before when we were still a  member of the Intercon health club we frequent there. It’s located in West Bay and it’s known for its longest beach and largest pool. There’s also the Sealine beach resort and Al qhariya beach resort.

A Bright Crescent Moon and a Twinkling Venus

Last night as we are about to get inside the car before going to my friend’s place to get the ripe mangoes from Pinas I saw something different in the sky, it was a beautiful view of a crescent moon with a very bright star on its side. How I wish that I had my camera with me so i could have taken some pictures. It was  an amazing sight to behold.

And as I searched the web, I was right there’s something not ordinary that occured last night. You can read it in here and here.

Princess: Sean, please put it back, it might get lost and daddy will have no work, and me no food if daddy has no work!

Paj Got Minor Accident

Yesterday at 9:30 in the evening as we are about to go out the Villagio Mall parking area we were cut by a Landcruiser car and good N was able to hit on the brakes fastly and only the bumper got smashed and some scratches on the front of Paj. N saw that car coming and he’s driving slowly since he’s goin’ up to the main road and it was just a fraction of seconds the car hit us. I don’t know if that Indian driver saw us or he’s just driving so fast. His recklessness was the cause of this minor collision. The parking area is well lighted and he should see us because we were already on the middle of the road. Good that Ate P is wearing a seatbelt but my poor Sean was being thrown down. And thanks God that we’re all okay except that Sean got scared.

Another thing is that we didn’t have cellphones last night, mine i left it in the house because it has no battery and my hubby left also his so we can’t contact a police to report the accident. Here in Qatar if you are facing a car accident you should not leave, you should not re-position your car so that the police can investigate what really happened. But I was thinking last night while waiting there that for sure, since we don’t speak their language the police report would be distorted as what other expatriates had experienced.

The Indian guy, his name is Mustafa, he wanted to leave but my hubby was very firm that he should stay and call a police. He was afraid we can see it from his face but he didn’t call a police instead he called his madam.

N told me to go back to the mall and tell the guard to call 999 to report the incident. I went their quickly and then 2 guards accompanied me back to were the accident happened and they called the police. The madam came with other 2 women, she talked to her driver and called for another car. when they left my hubby asked the driver the family name of his employer and he found out that the family belongs to the wealthy families here. They have 20 luxury cars and 10 drivers.

It was 2 long hours before the police came, my kids were getting impatient, they want to sleep and they are exhausted. Two policemen came and they asked first the drivng license of my hubby and then when he asked the Indian guy, he said he doesn’t have one. So there, that’s the reason that he wanted to escape us because he has no driving license but it was not our concern we wanted to finish the police report since when you go to Mitsubushi for the repair they won’t repair it if you don’t have a police report.

My hubby told the policemen what happened, and he told them that it’s the guy’s mistake and not ours and then Mustafa told also his side of story and then my hubby was being told by the policeman to go to their office the next day for the police report copy.

Today my hubby went to the police station and he’s not shocked at all when the policeman there told him that it was our fault. But then he reasoned and explained to the police in duty and his only reply, “khalas! (finish or stop!).

That’s the downside here of not knowing, of not being able to understand and speak their laguage in case of car accidents just be ready for the “khalas” term.

And i’m just sure of this, accidents can happen anytime and anywhere and i’m always praying for our safety, for my hubby’s safety especially that he’s always driving Paj in going to his work. Even if you are a responsible driver, even if you follow rules in driving, and even you want to be safe but there are those kind of drivers who are too aggressive not minding the other cars around them then just be cautious and alert.

Lesson learned, I always have to charge my cellephone and bring it with me everytime that we go outside.

Note: Here in Qatar, it has the topmost cases of car accidents.

The 6 Weird Things Meme

I’ve been tagged by Tita Belle to make a list of 6 weird things about me. I don’t know if somehow you’d think these things as weird but for me it is and I can’t think of any other weirdness in me so my list would go only upt o 4.

  • I sometimes experience deja vu, the feeling of familiarity that from one point in my life, I guess a certain incident or situation already happened only that I can’t remember when it exactly happened. It’s the same people , the same place and even the same lines that sometimes I can’t help myself but grin and almost said the lines exactly as what that person had said and still I can’t remember when it occured.
  • Sometimes I have this premonition of something is going to happen only that I can’t figure out what’s gonna happen and sometimes I use this to caution myself of what might to happen. Of course I can’t forecast, I don’t have this supernatural ability to tell what gonna happen only that I can have this eerie feeling which makes me uncomfortable. An example of this is when we were in Virac Airport during our vacation in Pinas and I was not thinking that something not nice would happen. I was pre-occupied with some things (my hubby is sad that our vacation to his parents had finally ended and so I was like comforting him) while my kids were running to and fro the airport and they were playing hide and seek and then suddenly a woman with a bulging tummy like it was  in her 8th month of pregnancy attacked us with harsh words, kicked the foot of my hubby and before this incident happened I told my hubby to let us go inside the departure area and stay there but still we stayed where we were sitting just near the check-in area. And that mad woman was my hubby’s ex-gf who happens to vowed herself to revenge if given the chance to confront  and harm us in any ways. We’re caught in surprise and I even asked my hubby who she is coz I didn’t know her and it was our first meeting. And take note it was like in 1999 that they parted ways before N went to work here in abroad and still she’s nursing her wounded heart and at present time she has a family with a toddler and a second baby in her tummy. I was speechless for a moment and when I was about to stand up to face her but my hubby cautioned me not to give in for it maybe a trap and he’s sure that something violent would happen if we’ll handle it with equal negative emotions or it might  cause delay in our flight. That’s what she wanted to have this scandalous scenario I guess  with sabunutan and sampalan ek-ek I guess but I did not stoop down to her level. I looked in her eyes and I guess she saw the warning. What I also did, I waved to the policeman and some guards there and then she quickly left the premises. Outside the building , there her hubby who I guess willingly came with her to the airport with a toddler in tow just to make like that! I don’t know what to think of her husband. Why he has to tolerate such nonsensical acts of his mad wife.
  • When I was in my younger days, sometimes I can hear that my mother is calling but then when I go to her and ask what is it , she would tell me that she didn’t call my name.
  • Another is that sometimes I can feel that somebody just passed by while I’m cooking in the kitchen and we are only 3 in the house (moi and my two kids) at day time since my hubby and my brother is at work so I guess it’s just a my own reflection since our kitchen has huge glass windows. I’m still positive of not thinking of some other inhabitants in our house aside from us but only sometimes you just can’t resist not to think that way. Again, I’m not into some paranormal thingy

With the side stories of my hubby’s ex-gf, I guess this meme qualified to a two-post entry hahaha:)

My Little Superman Returns!

 superman1.jpg   superman3.jpg   superman2.jpg

This is my son, Sean Linus who’ll be turning into his terrible two’s this coming month of August. He’s a charming li’l boy who loves to do antics to his older sister Andrea. He thinks that everything that his sister is doing he can also do and most of the time I found him trying on the girly shoes of his older sister, carrying pink bags of his sister and there’s another instance also that he raided my closet and tried on my stilletos too.

I’m a little bit worried that he’s playing with dolls and sometimes put on his head headbands or sometimes he’ll try to stick the pink pins on his hair. But then again my hubby would reassure me that he’s still small and he’s just copying his sister and he has no other playmate in the house aside from Andrea so most of his actions would be based on what his sister is playing with.

But mind you, he’s super tough, one time he did something to her sister while we were in the airport, he did some uppercut jab to his sister that really made Andrea cry since her lower lip had been cut and there’s blood and I was telling him to stop and he was like on the form of “bring it on mom!” his posture can be liken to a boxer on the ring who’s going to give another blow. He did not move and we walked away from him because we’re going to the departure area but then I had to go back because he was still there where we left him and I had to carry him because he did not want to say sorry to his sister.

He loves the humongus purple dinosaur (Barney) very much and as well as Winnie the Pooh and the 100-acre friends. And he likes superheroes too, Spiderman and Superman. He’s so cute when he would say, “go web!” with matching arm streching forward while fingers are trying to copy how Spidey would do it in the movie.

His grandparents were so happy while playing with him because his not a cranky boy and he easily adapts to his environment like it was his first time to go home to Pinas and he was so friendly to his cousins and very sweet especially to his grandfathers on both sides.

He is funny too sometimes he’ll tickle you or chase you around just to start up with  a play. I always want to hear his small voice when he talks and he can say words clearly.

And he’s so cute when he’ll say “dede, dede” while holding out to me a shawl when he wants milk, yes, until now I’m giving him my milk and still he doesn’t want formula milk and good thing is that he’s eating 3 meals a day plus the snacks.

His uncle gave him a gift, that Superman costume in the pics and he’s so happy while running around the house with the outfit.

We love you my little superhero!
