What Matters Most

This is an inspiring forwarded e-mail from my kind, good and bubbly friend and neighbor Ate L.

All relationships are put to
the fire. There is no such thing as a
constantly happy couple. There is no
such thing as a constantly happy
relationship. All of us, at one point
in our affairs will have to go through
a cleansing process which, hopefully,
will make us better persons.

Let us always remember that
our relationships are put to the test
to make stronger and better persons
out of us. Second to love, the next
most important ingredient of a
successful relationship is
communication. Many would agree that
there are certain things in a
relationship that are better kept
unsaid. But I don’t believe in that.
The moment we lie about our feelings
or the wrong that we have done, we
begin to build a wall of bricks around
ourselves. Every time we hide
something out of fear, we add a brick
to that wall. Soon we will be total
strangers to the very people we vowed
to be with the rest of our lives. We
will start to hurt inside until we can
no longer bear the pain. Until we
regretfully give up the very
relationships that we wanted to keep.

Before and After

These pictures below show the big difference of before and after having babies.

This is my picture before having a baby. My hubby took this pic while we’re fixing all our stuffs in our first rented home, the small flat here in Qatar.

This is me again after having my first baby. This photograph is taken during Andrea’s 1st birthday party at Junglezone, Hyatt Plaza.

After having my second baby, again I gained again a lot of weight, and now I’m trying to have a healthy me. My hubby, Seain and Moi during Sean’s 1st birthday party in Junglezone, Hyatt Plaza.

I will post my new picture as soon as I achieve my target weight.

Time to Reap the Fruit of my Hard Labor

Yey! I’m so happy that I lost 5 kg in a week. It was hard at Day 1 but then I persevered, I’m too willing and determined to do this cleansing diet until I reach my normal weight. You might ask me why it was hard? The diet itself is so strict and I was the one cooking for my family. Imagine myself drooling over the salmon that I cooked or the tortang talong (eggplant) on the second day of my diet. I don’t eat with them, I eat alone or they eat first. The bonus part was on the fifth day , eating beef barbecue ribs (I took out the fatty part) with 6 whole tomatoes and the sixth day , which is the feast day also another beef day  with vegetables and fruit juice.
Then I told my hubby and my brother that I’m in a strict diet so that they’ll not bug me from time to time why I’m not eating with them but still they kept on asking and after day 3 they stopped. I wrote the diet on a piece of paper and clipped it on the calendar for me to see what I should be eating in a week (even though I memorized it already since I did it  2 years ago) and for them also to read and stop calling my name whenever they are eating lunch or dinner. That’s the least thing that they can do for me, to stop asking me to eat with them. Their cooperation meant a lot.

I cooked and baked last Friday for my old friends and had a happy conversation with them while they ate and appreciated almost all the mouth watering and gastronomically satisfying main dishes and desserts that I made even though I was eating with them with  steamed broccolis.

The most important part is I can control myself in not indulging and eating while I was in my diet period. I followed every detail in my strict diet.

Now, I’m ready for stage two, which is another diet, a high protein and low car diet. I’m doing’ sit-ups every morning, only that I can’t make 100 of them unlike before when I was in college, but 50 sit-ups a day is not bad!

Chef at Home

I love this cooking TV series, the Chef at Home. Chef Michael Smith shows here how he cooks without a recipe. How’s that for a change? Cooking without a recipe and experimenting new tastes and new menus for family and friends. Chef at home is about real food and real cooking for real people.

I love his pantry. He has lots and lots of spices, condiments, alcoholic beverages, homemade concoctions like his vanilla in a jar. I told my hubby that I want a kitchen like his. And I  got only a smile for a response. His kitchen tools are awesome.
As for me I love cooking for my family and my friends. And I love cooking without recipe too!

Meeska, Mooska, Mickey Mouse!

My kids go gaga with this television series the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It’s like an everyday dose of chocolate and candies for them. They are so excessively and enthusiastically fond of this show. Thanks to Tito X-tian who downloaded this and shared this to them.
This TV series has Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy. It’s very nice and interactive. In every episode your kid can learn a lot like counting 1 to 10, identifying shapes and some problem solving scenarios.
Here are the episodes that we have in the house for Princess and Sean:

  1. Daisy-Bo-Peep (with Chip ‘n Dale)
  2. A Surprise for Minnie (with Pete)
  3. Goofy’s Bird (with Baby Red Bird)
  4. Mickey Goes Fishing (with Mr. Pettybone, Ludwig Von Drake and Pete)
  5. Donald’s Big Balloon Race (with Clarabelle Cow, Ludwig Von Drake, Chip ‘n Dale and Pete)
  6. Donald and the Beanstalk (with Willie the Giant and Boo-Boo Chicken)
  7. Minnie’s Birthday (with Mortimer Mouse, Chip ‘n Dale and Ludwig Von Drake)
  8. Donald the Frog Prince (with Ludwig Von Drake and Pete)
  9. Goofy on Mars
  10. Mickey Go-Seek (with Pete and Chip ‘n Dale)
  11. Daisy’s Dance (with Pete and Chip ‘n Dale)
  12. Pluto’s Ball (with Baby Red Bird, Chip ‘n Dale and Pete)
  13. Mickey’s Treasure Hunt
  14. Daisy in the Sky (with Ludwig Von Drake, Chip ‘n Dale and Pete)
  15. Pluto’s Puppy-Sitting Adventure (with Clarabelle Cow and Bella)
  16. Pluto’s Best (with Pete, Butch the Bulldog, Chip ‘n Dale, Clarabelle Cow and Ludwig Von Drake)
  17. Mickey’s Treat (with Pete)
  18. Mickey Saves Santa (with Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and Ludwig Von Drake)

Here’s their website wherein my daughter loves to stay and play games and do some activities.

Towards a New Me

Warning…Very long post ahead…

I’m in the mood of writing today and I’m happy to write and tell friends and friendly people who happen to visit my blog often that I’m into a very important life changing state now. I started my cleansing diet– the general weight loss program.

I did this before and the result was really amazing, a whopping 5 kilos deduction from my weight in one week. But that was the time that I also went to Intercontinental Hotel for thrice a week of exercise in gym and swimming. And after staying in my normal weight for a couple of months I got pregnant for my second baby and I guess its about time to shed off the extra weights I gained even though until now I’m purely breastfeeding my 17 months old toddler, who happen to love mom’s milk only and abhor the taste of the formula milk.

And that’s the reason why I did not do this dieting before since my baby boy has an allergy to high protein foods and he doesn’t want formula milk ( I tested and gave almost all of the different formula milk in the market) and so he’s quite big now and he can eat anything minus the foods that are allergic to him so he can eat for himself and not whine if I’ ll indulge myself in a strict diet that might affect my milk produce. But good that the supply is still good so it’s a bonus thing for me.
Back to what I’m talking about, this cleansing diet is so extreme in its deprivations which is meant also to achieve a rapid weight loss in a week span of time.

My goal after finishing my cleansing diet is to have a new healthy lifestyle in eating, which means I should be watchful of what’s going into my mouth and as well as the food quantity. And that’s a very hard challenge that should materialize.
Knowing the roles of how the mixture of foods would affect you means so much in staying healthy and within the bounds of your normal weight. What I learned is that never, never eat a protein food with carbohydrates, it should go along well with vegetables, or you can have carbohydrates with vegetables or fruits but never mix the two. And there are also fruits that should not be eaten with other foods. But you should also have a balance diet, meaning you should have the protein giving food and as well as the carbo-giving foods and the fruits and vegetables that well give you the vitamins and minerals in a day.
I’m just in the first stage, the cleansing diet and my second stage is another kind of diet that well make me healthy and that would continually decrease my weight until I reach my ideal weight then towards a lifestyle that I should keep. And I’m pretty sure to keep a high protein and low carbohydrates diet.
Now, I’m into Day 4, and I kept a record of my daily weight in the spreadsheet so I can really see the results from the graph that I made. This monitoring of results and seeing a descending pattern of my weight in the chart keeps me more determined of going the extra mile for my goal.

I know I can do this and I have all the will and determination to have a new me, a healthier me…

General Motors: Weight Loss Diet Program

The following diet and health program was developed for employees and dependents of General Motors, Inc. and is intended for their exclusive use. This program was developed in conjunction with a grant from U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. It was field tested at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre and was approved for distribution by the Board of Directors, General Motors Corp. at a general meeting on August 15, 1985. General Motors Corp. wholly endorses this program and is making it available to all employees and families. This program will be available at all General Motors Food Service Facilities. It is management’s intention to facilitate a wellness and fitness program for everyone.

This program is designed for a target weight loss of 10-17 lbs per week. It will also improve your attitudes and emotions because of its cleansing systematic effects.

The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the food eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value.

This plan can be used as often as you like without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter because you will be lighter by at least 10 lbs. You will have an abundance of energy and an improved disposition.

During the first seven days you must abstain from all alcohol
You must drink 10 glasses of water each day

Day One All fruits except bananas. Your first day will consist of all the fruits you want. It is strongly suggested that you consume lots of melons the first day. Especially watermelon and a cantaloupe. If you limit your fruit consumption to melons, your chances of losing three lbs. on first day are very good.

Day Two All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the amount or type. For your complex carbohydrate, you will start day two with a large baked potato for breakfast. You may top the potato with one pat of butter.

Day Three A mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet. No potatoes today.

Day Four Bananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. This will be combined with the special soup which may be eaten in limited quantities.

Day Five Today is feast day. You will eat beef and tomatoes. Eat two 10 oz. portions of lean beef. Hamburger is OK. Combine this with six whole tomatoes. On day five you must increase your water intake by one quart. This is to cleanse your system of the uric acid you will be producing.

Day Six Beef and vegetables. Today you may eat an unlimited amount of beef and vegetables. Eat to your hearts content.

Day Seven Today your food intake will consist of brown rice, fruit juices and all the vegetables you care to consume.

Tomorrow morning you will be 10-17 lbs. lighter than one week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. You may repeat this program as often as you like, however, it is suggested that you are allowed two glasses of white wine in addition to the instructions on the program. You may substitute champagne for white wine. Under no circumstances are you to drink any other alcoholic beverages with the exception of beer which is allowed. Any liquor (bourbon, vodka, rum) is forbidden.

Cream drinks are especially forbidden. You may have an occasional cordial such as creme de menthe or schnapps, but you must always limit yourself to two drinks. If you wine, drink only wine that day. If you have beer, drink only beer that day, etc. Alcohol adds empty calories to your diet. However, after the first week it will help your digestion and settle your stomach.

G.M.’S Wonder Soup

The following soup is intended as a supplement to your diet. It can be eaten any time of the day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to consume large quantities of this soup.

28 oz, Water, 6 Large Onions, 2 Green Peppers, Whole Tomatoes (fresh or canned), 1 Head Cabbage, 1 Bunch Celery, 4 Envelopes Lipton Onion Soup Mix, Herbs and Flavouring as desired.

Additional Comments

Vegetables as may be taken in the form of a salad if desired. No dressing except malt, white or wine vinegar, squeezed lemon, garlic, herbs. No more than one tea spoon of oil.

You have been given a recipe for the WONDER SOUP which can be eaten in unlimited quantities. This soup is a supplement while you are on the program and it should be a pleasure to eat. Not everyone likes cabbage, green peppers, calory etc. This recipe is not inflexible. You may substitute vegetables according to your taste. You may add any vegetables you like: asparagus, peas, corn, turnips, green beans, cauliflower, etc. Try to stay away from beans (lima, pinto, kidney, etc.), however, because they tend to be high in calories even though they are very good for you.

Beverages you may consume while on the program :

1. Water (flavoured with lemon/lime if desired).
2. Club Soda is OK.
3. Black Coffee. No cream or cream substitute. No sugar or sweetness.
4. Black Tea = Herb or Leaf.
5. Absolutely nothing else except the fruit juices which are part of day seven. No fruit juices before day seven.

How and Why It Works

Day One you are preparing your system for the upcoming programe. Your only source of nutrition is fresh or canned fruits. Fruits are nature’s perfect food. They provide everything you could possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.

Day Two starts with a fix of complex carbo-hydrates coupled with an oil dose. This is taken in the morning for energy and balance. The rest of day two consists of vegetables which are virtually calorie free and provide essential nutrients and fiber.

Day Three eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from the fruits. You system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will still have cravings which should start to diminish by day four.

Day Four, bananas, milk and soup sound the strangest and least desirable. You’re in for a surprise. You probably will not eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and the sodium you may have missed the past three days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets. You will be surprised how easy this day will go.

Day Five, Beef and tomatoes. The beef is for iron and proteins, the tomatoes are for digestion and fiber. Lots and lots of water purifies your system. You should notice colourless urine today. Your allowance calls for the equivalent of five “quarter ponders”. Do not feel you have to eat all this beef. You must eat the six tomatoes.

Day Six is similar to day five, Iron and proteins from beef, Vitamins and fiber from vegetables. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be a noticeable difference in the way you look today, compared to day one.

Day Seven finished off the program like a good cigar used to finish off Victorian meals, except much healthier. You have your system under control and it should thank you for the flushing and cleaning you just gave it.

The Big School and Hectic Days

Days are so fast, now, January is also like a ticking bomb. We have lots of things to finish since we are going to our yearly vacation and hopefully nothing is being left unattended. Princess Big school, Sean’s 18th month vaccination, stuffs to brings, and things to keep while we are away.
First, we went around almost all of the schools that we like for Princess big school. We went to Park House School (British Curriculum), The Cambridge School, then to Doha Montessori and British School then last drop is Doha English Speaking School. And most of these schools will start receiving registration forms end part of February and will give assessment and interview on the following months.

The problem is we’ll be leaving earlier and another thing is Park House School and Doha English Speaking School gives priority to British kids and there will be only available slot if some sections will not be filled. These two British schools are perfect for Princess big school but they are too costly and we are not British nationals.
The Doha Montessori and British School is our chance and hopefully Princess will make it in the interview and assessment. This school gives more importance on the EQ (emotional intelligence) of the kid and the environment is so nice. When we went there to get the admission form we watched the KG1 while they were on the shaded grounds having some activities. There are only 12 kids and and one British teacher and an assistant. Registration fee is Qr. 1000 and the tuition fee per term is Qr 3450. The people in the registrar’s office are very accommodating and they even let Princess have an earlier schedule for her interview.
In Cambridge School they will only accept registration forms in April and in the first come, first-served basis. The registration fee which is non-refundable is Qr 700 per child and the tuition fee is Qr. 2810 per term.

If you are a parent intending to enroll your kid this September 2007 here are some of the needed documents:

The Pinoy Henyo Game on New Year’s Eve

Our New Year’s eve celebration was full of happiness and laughter. We had our Media Noche at 9 pm, this time I prepared a table setting for my best friend and her family and another old high school friend who’s with another friend. The menu is simpler than the Noche Buena but they really enjoyed the food. We had Beef Barbeque Ribs,KFC Fried Chicken, Bulalo, Caesars Salad, sweet corn on the cob, leche flan, and gelatin. Ate Jovie and Faye brought a lot of food too, they cooked cassava cake, bilo-bilo, biko, pansit and Sean’s favorite cutchinta.

As we waited for the countdown for the New Year we let the kids dance first and wished everyone a blessed and a happy new year as 2006 closed and welcomed 2007 with enthusiasm and overflowing joy.

And we played charade again and then Pinoy Henyo. Our other visitors did not know how it is played since they are not watching Pinoy TV so my old good friend Sherwin explained to them how it is being played. We limit our category to the things and objects inside the living room and we borrowed Andrea’s crown and put double adhesive on it and there the game and laughter begun. We finished playing the game at 3 am and it was parting time.

Here’s to a New Year, a new chapter of our lives, like a new canvass that will be painted with new picture in it. And I wish that the painting of our lives would be bright and colorful. And I hope that this year will be filled with happiness and good health to all of my family and my friends, a world at peace ( I know I’m being ambitious for that but who knows?), a life that looks always on the good seed at every adversity and sees and feels the pure and wonderful heart of every being.

Cheers for a Wonderful Life!
